We are not a Hertford agency, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We are about eleven miles away in Potters Bar. What we do have is a client on Mead Lane whose website we have looked after for fourteen years, ten of them since they moved to Hertford.

Most of the work on a website happens wherever the person doing it happens to be, and pretending otherwise would be silly. What being close buys you is the easy stuff: we can be sat across a table from you in half an hour, we will come out when there is something worth seeing in person, and a first conversation over coffee is a perfectly reasonable thing to ask for. That matters more at the start of a relationship than at any point after it.

Fourteen years, and a move to Mead Lane

In 2012 we built a fully responsive website for Steel Co Signs, a sign maker then based in Potters Bar, the same town as us, back when responsive design was barely two years old. It reached the first page of Google for a good number of the terms their customers were searching for at the time. In 2016 the business moved to Hertford, and in 2021 it took over another local sign company and began trading under its name, East Herts Signs, which meant a second website for a rather different sort of client. What is actually local about this

Here is the honest part. A well-built website for a Hertford business is a well-built website, and anyone telling you their web design is somehow Hertford-specific is selling you a page rather than a service. What genuinely is local is search. If your customers type your trade followed by your town, that is a particular job with its own rules, and it is one we have been doing here since 2016.
