We are not a Hertford agency, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We are about eleven miles away in Potters Bar. What we do have is a client on Mead Lane whose website we have looked after for fourteen years, ten of them since they moved to Hertford.

Eleven miles, and what that is actually worth

Most of the work on a website happens wherever the person doing it happens to be, and pretending otherwise would be silly. These days we rarely meet clients face to face. The early conversations happen on a video call, and email and the phone carry things from there. Where being eleven miles away still earns its keep is when there is something worth going to look at. A sign maker does not work from a desk: there is a workshop, a process, and a finished job being loaded to go out, and half an hour standing in the middle of that tells you more about how the business runs than any amount of briefing will. It matters most when we are writing the words as well as building the pages, because a description of work you have watched being made reads differently from one assembled out of a specification.

Fourteen years, and a move to Mead Lane

In 2012 we built a fully responsive website for Steel Co Signs, a sign maker then based in Potters Bar, the same town as us, back when responsive design was barely two years old. It reached the first page of Google for a good number of the terms their customers were searching for at the time. In 2016 the business moved to Hertford, and in 2021 it took over another local sign company and began trading under its name, East Herts Signs, which meant a second website for a rather different sort of client. What is actually local about this

Here is the honest part. A well-built website for a Hertford business is a well-built website, and anyone telling you their web design is somehow Hertford-specific is selling you a page rather than a service.
